FAQs
Q: When are you going to release a new album?
A: "Camanecroszcope II: Echoes Ov A Beckoning Arcanum" was released in October 2006 on Spectre Records. Although I am working on another project right now, as I am writing this, I haven't started the production on a new Iszoloscope album.
Q: What does this Iszoloscope album sound like?
A: Every track I have released on an album has a downloadable MP3 excerpt in the "discography" section of this website.
Q: Where cam I buy this Iszoloscope album?
A: At your local underground electronic music store... if it still exists. Another option is to purchase online. I have compiled a list of distributors from around the world (in the Links section) who, I know for a fact, carry Iszoloscope merch.
Q: What does the word “Iszoloscope” mean?
A: While reading about John C. Lilly's work with sensory deprivation. Frank (my band mate at the time) and I theorised that Lilly could've used a device to monitor all the variables in his experiments with isolation. Hence, in our words, an "isoloscope". We thought it would be the perfect name for our project so it stuck. We finally decided to spell it "iszoloscope" for a bunch of juvenile reasons.
Q: I am a DJ at a local club/radio show/monthly event/Winamp playlist. Could you please send me some promos?
A: I have no hard copies of promotional material. There are a few full length MP3s encoded in high quality on the “downloads” section of this website that are available for this purpose. But if you want some CDs, I suggest you get in touch with the record labels.
Q: I have an unsigned demo that admittedly sounds like poop. Will you do a remix for me, just for fun?
A: Though my answer is no, you get 10 "Yann-Points" for self awareness.
Q: I just finished working on my demo and I'm really happy with it. I'm going to start sending it to record labels but before I do, I wanted to ask if you'd be interested in remixing one of my tracks so that they'll take it more serriously?
A: Don't fool yourself in believing that having a signed artist (anyone) sticking a remix on your demo will give it more (or a magical amount of) credibility towards record labels. A good record label that's worth your effort should focus all its attention on your music. If you're trying to get signed by all means necessary and it's that important to you, I suggest trying another line of "business". If you like what you are doing and are real happy with it, the rest should go smoothly so enjoy the ride and don't forget to have fun! Because, as far as I'm concerned, unless you are doing this for fun, you won't have any.
Q: I am a self-proclaimed "noise artist" with no artistic background, original concept, production skills nor imagination and my idea of knowing music is name dropping. Also, I managed to convince myself that adding distortion makes everything automatically sound good like if it were some kind of absolute truth. When in fact, it helps me suck goat balls with high pitch sounds. I mysteriously found the attention span to make a painfully long CDR demo in 5 days that is more annoying to listen to than anyone can fathom. Although, thanks to my lack of common sense, I am the only one who can't tell. But it shouldn't be a problem since I equipped it with a tasteless colour cover booklet, illustrated by myself with an embarrassing montage of skulls, various pictures of WW2 German tanks and half naked girls with goggles, dressed in PVC, that I totally ripped off from the Lithium Picnic website (without permission). Would you like a copy of my demo?
A: No.
Q: Are you planning to play in my city soon?
A: You might want to send me an eMail about this one if you don’t see your city listed in my “live” section. Also, ask your local promoters… it makes me look good… or dirty… or whatever… I think that it depends on how you ask.
Q: What type of music do you compose with Iszoloscope?
A: I don’t really care anymore how you label it. Even though my background is mostly with the industrial music scene, I have also played at rave, noise, breakcore, ambient and experimental music events.
Q: What type of equipment do you use to record?
A: I record exclusively with software.
Q: What software do you use to make music?
A: As of the latest update, I use Native Instrument’s Reaktor 5, Mackie’s Tracktion 2, Sony's ACID 6, Steinberg’s Wavelab 4. Plus a stupid anmount of VSTs and VSTis.
Q: Do you use a MAC?
A: No.
Q: If I sent this question to you enough, would it become frequently asked, and therefore deserving of being in your FAQ?
A: With the exception of this one, probably not. I only added a "FAQ" section on this website so I could fit in and look important. But thanks Squid for asking this questions a couple of times.
Q: Where is that picture from the top of the page from?
A: S.Alt took it.
Q: Who designed this website?
A: Me.
